Voters who need to vote from their vehicle should contact the Washington County Auditor’s Office at 319-653-7717

ID is required for early voting

A government issued photo ID with expiration date is required such as:

  • Iowa Driver’s License
  • Iowa Non-Operator ID
  • Iowa Voter Identification Card (with PIN)
  • Current US Military
  • US Passport
  • Out-of-state driver’s license–with proof of current Iowa address

Note: most Student IDs can’t be used

Register to Vote & Check Your Registration

You can register and vote early at the same time

If your ID doesn’t show your current address, you’ll need to provide proof of your address. Examples:

  • Residential lease
  • Utility bill
  • Cell phone bill
  • Bank statement
  • Paycheck
  • Other government document

IF YOU HAVE NOT YET REQUESTED AN ABSENTEE BALLOT

Since the deadline for submitting an absentee ballot request is Oct 21 at 5pm, there is very limited time remaining to request one. Please plan on voting in person.

IF YOU HAVE YOUR ABSENTEE BALLOT or ARE WAITING FOR YOUR BALLOT

Return your ballot by mail:

Return your ballot as soon as possible —it must reach the Auditor’s Office by 8pm on Nov 5A timely postmark is no longer enough; the ballot must be received by the deadline.


Return your ballot by hand:

  • Hand the ballot to the Auditor’s Office staff
  • Ask a relative to return your ballot
  • Call the Washington Auditor’s Office for help: 319-653-7717

If your ID doesn’t show your current address, you’ll be asked for proof of address (paper or digital) with your name, current address, valid within the last 45 days. Examples:
