Getting Started

Q: How long does it take to get our website up and running? Typically 20-30 days from start to finish, depending on how quickly you provide your content and complete the review process.

Q: Do we need to provide our own photos and content? You can use existing images or send us your own content—for text, logos, photos, and event details. We’ll guide you through the process and help with formatting and optimization.

Q: What if we already have a website? We’d be happy to bring you into our program! We would migrate your site to our managed hosting and convert it to our WordPress theme, so you get the same support, security, and professional design as all our partners.

Q: What if our domain name is already taken? We’ll work with you to find an available domain that fits your organization. If you already own a domain, we can transfer it into the program.

Pricing & Payment

Q: What’s included in the $350 annual fee? Domain registration, custom website design, managed WordPress hosting, event calendar, email newsletter integration, training, and ongoing support from our team. Note: If we help you set up an email service like Mailchimp, you’ll be billed directly by that provider separately.

Q: How will we pay you? We’ll send an invoice when the web design process begins. We accept payment by check, and your site launches once payment is received.

Ownership & Control

Q: Will my organization retain ownership of our site? Absolutely! Your domain name and all website content belong to you. If you ever decide to leave the program, we’ll help you transfer everything to your new host.

Q: Can we have multiple people update the website? Yes! We can set up login accounts for as many volunteers as you need, each with their own credentials.

Training & Support

Q: How much technical knowledge do our volunteers need? Very little! Our sites are built on user-friendly WordPress, and we provide hands-on training for 1-2 volunteers on basic updates. If you ever get stuck, the Activate Iowa team is just an email away.

Q: Can we see examples of your work? Yes! Visit our portfolio, including the Johnson County Democrats site. We’re happy to connect you with other partners who can share their experience.

Features & Functionality

Q: Will our site work on mobile phones? Absolutely. All our sites are fully responsive and look great on phones, tablets, and desktops.

Q: Do you handle website security? Yes. Our managed hosting includes security updates, backups, and monitoring so you don’t have to worry about it.

Q: Can we add fundraising or donation buttons? Yes! We can integrate donation tools like ActBlue or other payment platforms into your site.
